Earth Day is just a couple weeks away so I thought it would be fun to share some ideas of ways to celebrate Earth Day as a family. Whether you have toddlers, preschoolers, elementary-aged children, or teens, here are some ways to get your whole family involved in celebrating this place we call home.
Make a recycling bin for your home if you don’t have one already. (We made this simple recycling bin for the bathroom to hold shampoo and body wash bottles that we could then reuse. Empty clear shampoo bottles can make great DIY I-spy bottles!)
Talk about ways to use less water and practice water conservation. (Here are some great ways your family can conserve water and use it efficiently. Even little ones can learn to turn the water off when they are brushing their teeth.)
Have each member of the family decorate reusable water bottles for themselves.
Do a one-week challenge to see who can create the least amount of trash during the week. Winner gets to pick something fun to do that weekend. (This video inspired the challenge but this zero waste family video was interesting, too.)
Spend an afternoon together picking up trash in a local park or join a cleanup already scheduled (find a local cleanup here).
Go for a nature walk to appreciate the beauty around you. (Make this nature journal with the kids before you go!)
Make a craft out of something instead of throwing it away. (Here are 100 recycled craft ideas for kids or maybe your teens want to make these self-watering planters out of their empty soda bottles.)
Read an Earth Day book. (Here are some (affiliate link) Earth Day book titles to choose from.)
Celebrate with an Earth Day treat. Try one of these kid-friendly snacks.
Walk or ride a bike to where you have to go (if possible).
Plant something.
